Aurora Awards – Ballot, Voters’ Package and Dinner Theatre

Canvention and the Aurora Awards

VCON 42 is also hosting Canvention 38 and the 2018 Aurora Awards for excellence in Canadian Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror.

The Aurora Awards are run by the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association (CSFFA), a federally registered non-profit society whose board of directors come from across Canada.

Aurora Awards Ballot

Each year’s awards are for original works or activities done by Canadians in the previous calendar year. There are twelve categories, most for literary works, some for artistic works and one for organized fan activities. Some of them are for professional works while others are for amateur works (also known as “Fan Works”). To see what works are on the ballot this year, go to the Aurora Awards Public Ballot Page.  Here you will see on the left a link to the Nominee lists. which is where you will find bios of the nominees.

Aurora Award Voters’ Package

Any paid member of CSFFA may vote for the awards and all Canadians – whether citizens or permanent residents – can become a paid member for a mere $10 annual fee. And one of the great advantages of being a paid CSFFA member is the opportunity to download and review the contents of the year’s Aurora Award Voters’ Package – a digital archive with e-versions of all published works that are on the final ballot – worth far more than your annual fee.

To download the package, first Register as a New CSFFA Member if you haven’t done so previously. Then Log In to Your CSFFA Account and look for the link to the “download page” on the main membership page.

Voting for the awards will open on July 28th and close on September 8th at 11:59 pm EDT.

Aurora Dinner Theatre

To celebrate the Aurora Awards in high fashion, on the Saturday evening we will be holding a special Dinner Theater Event followed by the awards ceremony. Full details and prices to attend the show are not available yet but should be announced soon.

NOTE: The Arora Awards ceremony itself is open to the public and is free to attend. That is, you do not have to attend the dinner, or even attend VCON to attend the awards ceremony.  In fact, all CSSFFA events that are a part of Canvention are open to the public and do not require you to have a VCON membership (though we do believe you’ll have a lot of fun if you do attend the convention!)
